Melrose High School Algebra 2
Day 5
Is College the only Option?
Now that you know your personality, have evaluated your skills and interests, and identified a top college option, some other questions emerge:
What if I can't qualify for my first option?
or
What if I don't want to go to college?
It's important that we thoughtfully answer these questions. It might even happen that although you thought you would go to college, you'll discover an excellent new path that sets you up for a successful career.
Today we add to your #1 college option from yesterday by exploring other routes, including trade school and immediate work opportunities. You'll write 3 short paragraphs today, about:
At least two more colleges, one in-state option and one out-of-state option.
Pick a community college or technical school (or one from this list of all TN schools) and tell us a little about why this might be a good fit for you if you had to attend a community college or trade school.
Dream BIG! Anything is possible!
By the time you are done today, you should have: 2 additional college options, a community college or technical school option, and a job option. Type these paragraphs into your Life After Melrose google doc and bring them up at the end of class to get signed off.

Today we add to your #1 college option from yesterday by exploring other routes, including trade school and immediate work opportunities. You'll write 3 short paragraphs today, about:
At least two more colleges, one in-state option and one out-of-state option.
- What additional in-state college option are you considering?
- Why is it in your top 3?
- What is your other out-of-state college option?
- Why is it part of your top 3?
Pick a community college or technical school (or one from this list of all TN schools) and tell us a little about why this might be a good fit for you if you had to attend a community college or trade school.
- Where would you attend?
- What trade would you learn?
- What starting salary would you earn with that certification?
- How much would it cost to attend the program?
- Why is this job a good fit for you?
- What would your starting salary be? (If pay is hourly, how much would you make in a year?)
- Do you have any personal connections that could help you land this job? Who? Why?
Dream BIG! Anything is possible!
